Derelict barn near Glastonbury Festival site could become holiday let

A DERELICT barn on a farm near the Glastonbury Festival site could be converted to a holiday let property.

Plans to redevelop and change the use of a building at Woodlands Farm, in West Pennard, around three miles from Worthy Farm, have been submitted to Somerset Council.

The application said the design would see the former barn “make a positive contribution that reinforces the character of the area, conserving and enhancing its natural beauty”.

“The footprint and the structure of the building will be retained as much as possible,” it said.

Materials would include a tiled roof and natural stone walling, with grey-coloured powder-coated aluminium windows and doors.

“The proposed site has existing natural hedge lines and boundary walls,” the application added. “These are all to be retained.

“Areas of garden are to be landscaped by the owner.

“External lighting to the dwelling will be low energy, with timers to limit the amount of time the lighting is on, to prevent light pollution to the landscape.”

Access to the site would be from the existing driveway, the plans said, with a garage and cycle storage also included.

The scheme will now be considered by planners at Somerset Council. For more details, and to comment on the plans, log on to somerset.gov.uk and search for application reference 2024/0650/FUL.
