A DORSET primary school is making the most of new technology after being connected to super-fast broadband.

Stalbridge Primary School pupils have been able to check out real-time video footage of wildlife visiting the site, using a camera connected to their Wessex Internet broadband.

Wessex Internet experts worked with head teacher, Simon Elledge, to install a remote camera to capture shots of the local wildlife that visits the school grounds.

The school was connected to ultrafast full fibre broadband after Dorset Council secured funding from Dorset Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and their Getting Building Fund, which helps to connect community buildings to next generation, full fibre broadband.

Operatives from the Wessex Internet Civils team connected the wildlife camera back to the school, so the children could see a live feed of the footage being captured.

Now live, the camera has become a great focal point to teach the children about the different types of wildlife found in the British countryside, providing the inspiration for a variety of different writing challenges for the children.

Headteacher, Simon Elledge, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve been able to install the new wildlife camera.

“We are already reaping the benefits our connection is bringing to the pupils, with this project offering the school a wonderful opportunity to connect the pupils with the local wildlife.

“It is a splendid example of the benefits a digital connection can offer in helping the pupils to learn, whilst offering the teachers a level of flexibility that only a broadband connection can offer.”
