BIG Brother’s Tom Bryant – from Wincanton – responded maturely after missing the chance to see his best friend in a task viewers branded “evil” and “brutal”.

Last night’s challenge on the ITV reality show saw housemates work shifts as security guards to catch intruders.

It turned out the intruders were family members of housemates, with the security guards forced to choose who would be let inside to see their loved one, and who would be sent away.

Housemates Noky and Yinrun were forced to choose between Tom’s best friend Lee and Jenkin’s mum.

Despite acknowledging “Tom needs it”, the pair chose to send Lee home.

Tom held Jenkin’s arm as he cried at hearing his mum’s voice for the first time in weeks, and gave him a massive hug after she left.

After hearing he missed out, the Somerset butcher excitedly asked, “Who was it? Was it Lee? Was it Lee?”, before reassuring Jenkin, “I’m fine. I’m happy it was your mum”.

This comes after Tom’s explosive outburst at the weekend following Paul’s eviction.

Tom, who works at Andrew Barclay & Sons in Wincanton High Street, broke into tears while saying goodbye and after seeing Henry and Trish laughing he blazed, “They’re f***ing giggling right now, I can’t do this”.

He also received criticism during the Big Brother livestream on Sunday. Talking to Olivia about Chanelle, he mimed slicing a throat while saying “iced out”, causing fans to demand the police were called.

Later in yesterday’s episode, Tom was in the security chair alongside Henry. They were given a decision between Olivia’s sister and Trish’s sister.

Tom took the lead, asking “Who do you think would cope with it better?”.

He decided to let Olivia see her sister as her closest friend in the house had just been evicted, whereas Trish has a strong network around her.

Nonetheless, he apologised to Trish and explained his decision. She said: “I may not like it, but I definitely respect it.”

Could this be the redemption of Tom? Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one viewer said: “Reluctantly, even Tom was sensible.”

Another wrote: “Tom making that final will be the biggest fluke of the season.”
