A FOLK band on a challenge to perform along a historic route was greeted by the mayor when they stopped in Blandford.

Mayor, Cllr Hugo Mieville, greeted The Salts when they arrived at the Trafalgar Way plaque in the town before their concert at the Corn Exchange.

The Salts are on a challenge to sing a song in front of each of the plaques on The Trafalgar Way, which marks the historic route used to carry dispatches with the news of the Battle of Trafalgar overland from Falmouth to the Admiralty in London.

In November 1805, the first message was carried by John Richards Lapenotière, of HMS Pickle. He docked in Falmouth and raced to London with the news of the victory in the Battle of Trafalgar and the death of Lord Nelson.

The Salts are following the same route, stopping at the plaques and playing a number of shows along the way.
On their tour, the band is supporting The Trafalgar Way and Jubilee Sailing Trust, a charity that changes lives through adventure and exploration onboard a tall ship.

Friday, November 10: Stoke-on-Trent, Fenton Town Hall
Friday, November 17: Shoreham-by-Sea, Ropetackle Arts Centre
The Salts are also set to headline the Costa Winter Festival, on Hayling Island, on December 5.
