THE Gillingham Walking Festival is looking for a new coordinator – amid fears the event could cease.
This year’s event, which ran between September 2 and 9, saw around 150 walkers put their best feet forward during 15 walks of varying lengths and difficulty in locations around the town.
Started in 2014, the festival is organised by a committee of volunteers, led by coordinator, Sheila Messer.
However, Sheila is set to stand down from the position, with the group seeking a replacement, to protect the future of the event.
“The existing team are happy to continue their work but are unable to take on that role,” a spokesperson said.
“Many thanks are due to Sheila for her enthusiasm in facilitating walking in Gillingham.
“Could you, or someone you know, step into this role to ensure the future of the festival?”
Anyone interested in finding out more about the position should contact Sheila on 01747 821269, or email her at messersheila@hotmail.com.
Meanwhile, a new pack of eight circular walks from Gillingham Station, which was launched on the first day of the festival, is available for free from the station, Gillingham Library and other venues around the town.
