Anti-social beehive-iour

A beekeeper from Sturminster Newton has been left scratching his head after a vandal targeted his hives.

Bill Summers, who made his own hives, was perplexed to find the roof off one of the hives when he went to check them on July 25. It is thought the attack happened overnight and left the bees exposed to a rain storm.
The hives are sited at Hosey Bridge.

Bill said: “The roof, when discarded, appears to have been done so in some haste as the bees got wind of what was going on and fought back in the dark. It must have been terrifying, and not just for the bees. They all have my sympathy.”

“I’ve been wondering what the reasons could be for removing the roof – a sweet tooth? Masochism? Bravado? Curiosity? Or do they have an urge to keep bees? If so I can offer a ZEST hive guided tour (in Friendship) that includes full body protection, a cup of tea and a biscuit…”
