Amazing! School’s Chicago a smash

Students from The Gryphon School in Sherborne delivered fantastic performances of Chicago with audiences saying it was ‘absolutely amazing!’ and that they were ‘blown away by how professional it was’.

Since auditioning in September, the entire cast and crew of Chicago worked incredibly hard to ensure the performances were a show stopping success, polished and professional.

The cast included some 70 students across Years 7 to 13, including Viktoria as Roxie Hart, Josie as Velma, Finlay as Billy Flynn, Elijah as Amos, Jasmine as Mama Morton and Faith as Mary Sunshine.  Alongside the singers and dancers, the complete soundtrack was performed by the school orchestra, with students and staff playing everything from piano to drums, violins to the accordion.

Despite the current challenges, the show was performed across four nights to sell-out audiences who were amazed by the level of talent and professionalism of the students.

The Gryphon School’s Head of Drama, Holly Young, said: “The show was an excellent example of Gryphon students’ outstanding performance skills, as well as teamwork to ensure the production was a success.

“The standard of performance was exceptional, and I am extremely proud of everyone involved.”

Headteacher Nicki Edwards said: “The opportunity to take part in fantastic events such as this means that the students have wonderful memories of their school days that will last a lifetime.  The teamwork, commitment, talent and enthusiasm of the students shone out in their broad smiles and incredible performances.”
