Almost 5,000 could be missing out on Pension Credit – ahead of WFA means-testing

ALMOST 5,000 people in Dorset could be missing out on Pension Credit – as plans to means-test the Winter Fuel Allowance are set to come into force.

The benefit is open to people are over State Pension age and on a low income – and could be worth £75 a week.

It is separate from the state pension, which means that you could still be entitled to Pension Credit even if you have other income, savings or own your own home, if you fall within the criteria.

To check whether you are eligible, use the Pension Credit calculator online at www.gov.uk/pension-credit, or call the Pension Credit claim line on 0800 99 1234.

Cllr Ryan Hope, Dorset Council’s cabinet member for customer, culture and community engagement, said: “This is money that many people over State Pension age are entitled to and it can open up access to other support to help with the continued rise in cost of living.

“People who receive Pension Credit can also become eligible for the Winter Fuel Payment, Council Tax reduction, Housing Benefit (for renters) or Support for Mortgage Interest (homeowners), the ability to apply for a free TV licence (if you are 75 or over) and help with NHS costs.

“The deadline to apply for Pension Credit and be eligible to claim the Winter Fuel Payment is December 21, so time is running out. If you, or someone you know, could benefit from this additional income, check now to see if you are eligible. It only takes a few minutes.”
