BARBECUE burgers were provided to Celtic warriors, Romans, Vikings and more at an event in Dorset.
Ladies from Blandford Evening WI stepped up to the mark to provide support – and nourishment – at the first Open Days of the new season at the Ancient Technology Centre, in Cranborne.
Over the Easter weekend they provided burgers from the barbecue in the pavilion, with tea and homemade cakes, donated by themselves and centre volunteers, on offer before the fire hearth in the Viking Longhouse.
“The much missed sun made a welcome appearance and brought out the crowds to achieve the best attendance ever at an open day there,” a spokesperson said.
“To help them feed the hungry crowd and keep up with the demand, the ladies applied their code of diversity and handed one of their well-known pinafores to Stuart Faulkener and his mum Angela for the afternoon. And a Great job they did too.
“The Celtic warriors, in their brightly-coloured tunics, glowed in the sun, while the highly-polished armour of the Romans glinted and glittered like gold.
“The children thoroughly enjoyed the Easter picture trail rewarded by an Easter Egg while the adults were fascinated by the demonstrations of ancient technologies on show from centre volunteers, the reenactors and artisans.”
The next Open Days at the centre will be on July 27 and 28 when the Saxons and the Vikings will be looking for warriors to join their Shield Wall.
