Cullingford Carpets in Wincanton shuts down “retail side” of business

A FAMILY-run Wincanton company has ceased retail trading, it is understood.

Cullingford Carpets & Interiors, which was established in 1978, is believed to have closed down.

A notice on the company’s premises on Wincanton Business Park informs visitors the “retail side of the business” has shut down.

“It is with great sadness that the Cullingford family have taken the decision to close the business,” the notice said.

“Mr Cullingford is unable to continue working, so the family have taken the difficult decision to cease the retail side of the business.

“We would like to thank all our customers for their support over the many years we have been trading.”

It is unclear what impact the decision has on jobs at the firm.

A shop in Gillingham is also understood to have closed.

Cullingford Carpets, which specialises in carpets, rugs, wall and floor coverings, was founded in 1978 and continues to be run by the family, with more than 5,000 sq ft of showroom space.

Companies House lists Sharon and Stewart Cullingford as the only active directors of Cullingford Carpets Limited.

Today (Thursday), items were being removed from the Wincanton premises, and the company declined to comment on the closure.

The financial company understood to be handling the matter has been contacted for comment.
