Dog and driver freed as crash closes A35 between Winterbourne Abbas and Dorchester

A CRASH has closed the A35 between Winterbourne Abbas and Dorchester.

Police said a two-vehicle incident happened at just before 2.15pm, with one of the vehicles leaving the road and ending up in a ditch.

Firefighters cut away hedgerow to free the driver of that vehicles, as well as a dog.

The route has been closed between the Winterbourne Abbas service station and the junction with Long Bredy Hut Lane, causing long delays in the area.

“Road closures are in place and we would ask motorists to please seek alternative routes. Thank you for your patience and understanding,” a Dorset Police spokesperson said, confirming ambulance and fire crews were also on the scene.

A Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue service spokesperson said crews from Dorchester and Bridport were sent to the scene.
