Athenaeum Singers new leader on St Tom’s team

THE Warminster-based Athenaeum Singers were set to resume rehearsals this month under new director of music Thomas Mottershead.

Thomas, who will be starting his first full term with the choir, is an experienced singer and in recent months appeared on the ITV programme The Voice as part of Sir Tom Jones’ team.
He was also on television on Songs of Praise on Christmas Day in his role as a tenor in the Llandaff Cathedral choir.
Thomas started conducting at the age of 15 and after a degree in Music from Cardiff University, went on to study choral conducting at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and a teaching qualification at Cambridge University.
Since then, he has developed his career as a singer and choral conductor.

In the 23 December edition of the New Blackmore Vale, the wrong photo was used with a review of the Athenaeum Singers pre-Christmas concert headlined A Feast of Mozart and Schubert. The picture was from a light-hearted concert in June, conducted by Nigel Perrin, featuring the story of Noah.
