Farming podcast reaches the world

A PODCAST produced in Shaftesbury is reaching a global audience.

The ChewintheCud pod, primarily aimed at dairy farmers in the South-West, is thriving, less than ten episodes in.
The monthly show sees Andrew Jones, independent dairy and beef nutritionist, and genetic consultant Neil Greggor give their views on all subjects, although focussing on dairy, in a fun and informative way.

Using contacts they have in the industry in Dorset, and sometimes further afield, the pair discuss a different monthly topic with a guest with the aim of helping to make people think about what they are doing, without preaching about what they should be doing.
With no commercial bias behind the podcast, and both having a lifetime of different roles and different experiences around the world in the industry, the pair aim to have fun highlighting different topics relevant to their listeners.
So far topics have included Grass Reseeding, It’s Showtime, On Farm Recycling, Foot Trimming, and On Farm Nitrogen Cracker.
Their current podcast is ‘The Accidental Auctioneer’, featuring well-known local auctioneer Greg Ridout, from near Gillingham.
Not only have they had listeners from across the South-West, but also the whole of the UK, Europe, Australia, Asia and North America.

“While this is being done for a bit of fun, it’s also exciting to see the stats of where in the world people are listening to us, and we’ve already had a podcast in the top 25 per cent of all podcasts listened to in a month,” said Andrew.
Planned future topics include: Livestock: The Waste Feed Recycling Industry, Carbon Sequestration, Understanding Breeding Indexes, Reducing Protein Usage on Farm, Using & Understanding Genomics, Reducing Johne’s on Farm, with many more planned with potential industry guests already offering to be part of future podcasts.
“We also want to hear some local farmers’ stories on particular subjects so already have a couple of them lined up for next year as well,” Andrew added.

The podcast is available from Apple, Amazon, Google, Spotify and YouTube by simply searching ChewintheCud or also, along with further information, direct from the website at www.chewinthecud.com
