Three students from Gillingham School are raising money to volunteer this July in Kenya teaching and building classrooms for children in extreme poverty. This April 23rd Frankie Radford, Judah Radford and Matt Curtis will undertake the Welsh 3000s Mountain Challenge. The challenge is to climb all 15 of the mountains over 3,000ft in North Wales within the space of 24 hours, without using any form of transport. The trek, from start to finish, is approximately 33 miles including 14,000 ft of ascent. They are appealing to local people and businesses to sponsor them.
The boys have also organised a school disco for Year 7 students to help fund their volunteer work. They will be working with a school in Nakuru in Kenya: there the cost of an education is out of reach for many, so schools have been set up by local people, aided by project operator African Adventures, to give children the chance of a better future.
Trip participant Judah Radford says: “We want to take part in this trip because we think it will be a great opportunity for us to understand real world problems that are going on in other countries. We also want to make sure that we do what we can to aid those who are less fortunate than us.”
