£210,000 already spent as new ASB funding round opens

COMMUNITIES across Dorset are being urged to step forward and help tackle anti-social behaviour (ASB) as a key funding scheme reopens.

Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner David Sidwick has relaunched the Op Relentless Community Fund, offering financial support to local groups working to reduce ASB and improve public safety.

Since launching in 2021, the fund has awarded more than £210,000 to 53 projects in 49 locations, supporting initiatives ranging from youth outreach and mentoring schemes to sports activities and CCTV installation.

The scheme focuses on tackling the root causes of ASB – something residents across the region continue to raise as a major concern.

Mr Sidwick said he is keen to see more organisations come forward with ideas: “I am committed to empowering communities across Dorset to deliver the solutions they know will be most effective locally, strengthening neighbourhoods and safeguarding vulnerable people.”

Projects already funded have delivered tangible results.

In one case, CCTV installed at Top Club Littlemoor led to an 80% drop in reported ASB incidents.

The fund is open to a wide range of applicants, including youth groups, charities, community organisations and Community Interest Companies.

Successful projects have included reduced-cost skatepark sessions in Weymouth, mentoring programmes for at-risk young people and support schemes helping people tackle addiction.

Mr Sidwick added: “By working in partnership, we can better protect Dorset residents from the persistent harm ASB can cause, while continuing to improve outcomes for victims.”

Applicants are encouraged to ensure their proposals clearly focus on ASB and improving safety in their communities.

Full details, including eligibility criteria, are available online.

With ASB levels now at their lowest in Dorset for 16 years, officials hope continued investment in community-led solutions will help keep the county one of the safest places to live, work and visit.
