Wincanton Wheeler Sally’s 1,600km effort raises £1,500 for air ambulance

WINCANTON Wheeler Sally Pitfield raised a whopping £1,500 for the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance after completing an epic cycle between Land’s End and John O’Groats.

Sally, from Castle Cary, said the challenge – a 1,600km ride including 15,000m of hills – was “amazing and challenging”.

“Over two weeks I rode over 1,600km and climbed over 15,000m of hills. I’ve been through sunshine, rain, wind and hail, over hill passes, through tunnels and through underpasses,” she said.

“I’ve been over bridges, viaducts, through a ford and taken ferries; ridden on fabulous roads, canal paths, tow paths and cycle ways as well as dodged many potholes and negotiated some very muddy tracks.

“I’ve heard cuckoos, spotted a hare, red squirrel, lots of deer and more sheep than you can shake the proverbial stick at, been through the most fantastic scenery, and met some wonderful people.

“It’s been an amazing, challenging adventure.”

The intrepid biker is still accepting donations to her fundraiser via dsairambulance.org.uk/fundraisers/im-riding-from-lands-end-to-john-ogroats-for-dorset-and-somerset-air-ambulance.
