TESCO is cutting 400 jobs – including at mobile phone shops and in-store bakeries.
The supermarket giant says the cuts, which include losing managers at its head office, as well as the mobile phone and bakery workers, will ‘simplify’ operations.
However, Tesco UK chief Matthew Barnes said the company has around 1,000 vacancies – which could see many of those under threat offered new roles.

“These are difficult decisions affecting our colleagues, but we believe they are necessary to enable us to invest in what matters most to our customers,” Mr Barnes said.
“Our priority is to support impacted colleagues and we will do everything we can to help them find alternative roles within our business.
“Today, we have almost 1,000 vacancies available.”
The news comes after rival Sainsbury’s last week confirmed its remaining cafés, pizza and patisserie counters were to close and jobs cut in a bid to “simplify the business”.
It is understood cafés in Poole and Bournemouth Sainsbury’s in Dorset will be among those to go, as well as in Bristol, while pizza and patisserie counters at all branches, including the likes of Taunton, Street and more in Somerset, will shut.
