THE Lloyds bank branches in both Blandford and Dorchester are set to close later this year.
Lloyds Banking Group, which also includes Halifax and Bank of Scotland, announced plans to shut 136 more high street branches across the UK as part of cost-cutting measures.
The Lloyds branch in the Market Place in Blandford is set to close on November 10, while the branch on South Street in Dorchester is set to close on June 19.
A spokesperson for Lloyds Banking Group said the move comes as more people have transitioned to doing their banking online.
A Lloyds Banking Group spokesperson said: “Over 20 million customers are using our apps for on-demand access to their money and customers have more choice and flexibility than ever for their day-to-day banking.
“Alongside our apps, customers can also use telephone banking, visit a community banker, or use any Halifax, Lloyds or Bank of Scotland branch, giving access to many more branches. Customers can also do their everyday banking at over 11,000 branches of the Post Office or in a banking hub.”
All staff at the affected branches will be offered a role at another branch or in another part of their business, according to Lloyds.
Ooh Bugger ! That is the only proper Bank that we have left in Blanford !
I think this is utterly rediculus. The blandford branch is the only remaining bank in blandford and is well used by many especially old people. What do Lloyds think they are doing they are putting the owners on the post office on blandford who are already stretched and the queues are so long sometimes. It’s a disgrace all in the name of cutting costs. It’s such a shame that the banks can’t see the disruption they cause to people and businesses.
This will leave Blandford without a bank.
I have been a customer at the Blandford branch for 40 years this is disgraceful the last bank in Blandford staff have always been fantastic. Sad news
I’ll be leaving Lloyds in November then- how can they justify closing Blandford branch when so many people use it daily? Nationwide will get my business as they understand that people like to interact with actual humans.
Unbelievable – the reason so many people bank online is because they were pushed into it by their local branch closing.
Where’s the choice for loyal customers?
I hope the Lloyds building in Blandford isn’t left to rot like the Barclays next door
Both my parents are registered blind and have NO public transport in their area. There is a community mini bus to Dorchester once a week, which they use. Lloyds staff have a good rapport with them and understand their needs. They are unable to use internet/telephone banking! Life will now be even more challenging for them with the closure of the bank.
Lloyds has the last cashpoint in Blandford. So – queuing for cash at the PO, or walking across the meadows to Tesco and back? Not for car-less old pensioners. And no human to ask about scams or for advice. Lloyds is for Lloyds, not for its customers.
No internet – no mobile or computer – no sight and limited sight – what on earth is my mother now meant to do for banking ? Already moved from another bank in town – now another closure, total disgrace and discrimination for profit for share holders.
I have been using Lloyds since HSBC closed, my wife all her life. Where we live about 7 miles from Blandford with no bus service other than a community bus, in town for 1.5 to 2 hours on Thursdays, we can’t use internet or phone banking due to sight problems.
There is a good reason that Bank and Bastard start with the same letter.
I. have been a customer at NAT/west for70 year’s and had nothing but trouble with online banking @ problem’s associated with this poor internet access etc changing my accounts to other societies will not help
