Special Guiding tribute to dedicated volunteer Thelma Ings, of Mere

A SPECIAL Girl Guiding honour was paid to long-standing representative Thelma Ings, who has passed away.

Born in Salisbury Street, Mere, on January 29, 1932, Thelma was an administrator for husband’s business – but also played a big part in community activities in the area.

She passed away on July 18, at the age of 91.

She was an active member of the Church and Girl Guiding groups, having joined the Guides at the age of 12, in 1944.

Girl Guiding became an important part of her life, her family said, resulting in her eventually being made a Division Commissioner, leading a Ranger Unit.

“Thelma was given the Good Service Award and became Divisional Vice President,” her family said.

“Thelma only retired from active Guiding when she reached 65.”

She was honoured at her funeral by The Girl Guiding Standard being shown by Jo Manship.

The Talbot Dog was put on The Standard in 1952 and represented Mere.
