‘High levels of vacancies’ causing post delays, says Royal Mail

A HIGH number of vacancies has seen some post be delivered late in Yeovil and surrounding areas, according to Royal Mail.

Households in the town, and areas such as Babcary and Cary Fitzpaine, contacted your New Blackmore Vale after delays in receiving their mail.

One even said she had missed out on using Tesco Clubcard vouchers, such was the delay in her receiving her post.

Royal Mail has confirmed some delays due to ‘high levels of vacancies’ at the Yeovil Delivery Office.

New staff were set to start work soon, a spokesperson said, and any recent backlogs cleared.

Just one vacancy – for a ‘postperson with driving’ – was being advertised at the Yeovil office at the time of writing.

“We are sorry that residents in Yeovil have experienced delays receiving their mail,” the spokesperson said.

“Improving our quality of service is our top priority and we are committed to restoring service levels to where our customers expect them to be.

“The local service has been impacted by high levels of vacancies at Yeovil Delivery Office. This has led to delays in the area.

“However, we have new staff joining the business in the area and every effort is being made to ensure post is delivered on time.

“Those who do not receive their mail on the day they expect will be prioritised the following day.”

They urged anyone who experiences delays with their mail to get in touch with the Royal Mail customer service department by calling 03457 740 740, or via www.royalmail.com.
