Six homes could be built on site of Sturminster Newton British Legion Club

SIX new homes could be built on the site of the Royal British Legion Club in Sturminster Newton.

Paul Dance Ltd, on behalf of the Bath Road venue, has submitted a planning application to Dorset Council which could see the club demolished and replaced with the homes.

It is hoped the sale of the site for redevelopment would fund the relocation of the RBL Club, the plan said, as the current building was no longer suitable.

“This building has reached the end of its life span as the club will be closing at the end of April, due to their inability to insure the building as it is not fit for purpose and can no longer be occupied,” it said.

“The main reason for submitting this application is to establish the principle for residential development.

“The aim is then to sell the site to help fund a relocation. By submitting this application we hope to establish a value.”

Homes on the site would be townhouses, with parking spaces and gardens, the application said.

As virtually no one grows food any more why townhouses with gardens? Surely there would be more support for an enabling development where part of the site was used to build small, affordable, or better still social housing to fund an improved Legion building? Is parking really such an issue in the town centre?

Build 6 bungalows for social housing to aid in the senior or disabled society and then they could give up there houses they struggle in which would free up houses for young families to move into
