POST Office services will no longer be available in a Dorset village – as it is “not commercially viable”.
The Post Office has decided to withdraw outreach services at Chettle Village Stores, saying a recent move had prompted a review of the provision.
Use of the facilities was low, the company said, and it had been decided to withdraw the outreach services – advising customers to get the number 20 bus to Blandford instead, around seven miles away.
The move prompted an angry reaction from the shop, which announced the decision on social media.
“We regret to announce that we have recently been informed that the Post Office have withdrawn their service from us, effective immediately,” they said.
“This decision was not communicated to us from the Post Office themselves, and we only found out indirectly via Child Okeford Post Office, who provide the outreach service for us.
“We have still had no direct communication from the Post Office regarding this matter, despite making several attempts to reach to the relevant decision makers.”
They said they were looking into ways to appeal the decision.
“We are very frustrated and disappointed with this decision, and will be doing everything we can to resolve the situation as we know how important and valuable a service is to many in the village,” they went on.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience, and will keep you updated as and when we have more information.”

A Post Office spokesperson said: “Chettle Village Shop recently relocated to a new location.
“Where there’s a change to the Post Office network, the Post Office uses the opportunity to review the provision of our services at that location.
“Customer usage of this outreach was low and we have concluded that it is not commercially viable to continue operating it.
“We recognise that this will be disappointing for those villagers that have used the outreach before.
“Our advice is to consider using Blandford Forum Post Office which is open six days a week and is reachable via the number 20 bus for those unable to drive.”
