Mere donkey sanctuary applies for permission for timber studio

PERMISSION is being sought for a timber shed built at a Wiltshire donkey sanctuary – although it has already been built.

A planning application has been submitted to Wiltshire Council by Whiteacre Planning on behalf of Craig Bowers for a timber studio building at the Muddy Mule facility, in Wet Lane, Mere.

“The studio is required to provide a space for workers and volunteers at this donkey sanctuary for shelter, storing personal belongings or making hot drinks,” it said.

“It is also proposed to make the studio available to guests in order to support the charity’s work.”

The application says the “small timber studio” would provide a space for employees at the sanctuary, as well as “enabling the applicant to let it out as tourist accommodation on an occasional basis”.

“The studio is on a small piece of land once part of a neighbouring garden and replaces a previous timber shed,” the application said.

Letting the studio would provide “financial support for this rural charity”, it went on.

“The timber studio will be used in conjunction with the donkey sanctuary and will be marketed towards couples and small families seeking a quiet countryside holiday – with donkeys,” it added.

Parking is provided for one vehicle and access is via the already-permitted route.
