Pedestrian told driver to slow down – and was allegedly racially abused

A DRIVER is alleged to have racially abused a pedestrian who told them to slow down on a Dorchester road.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after an altercation in Trinity Street at around 4.30pm on Thursday (January 16).

A Dorset Police spokesperson said the incident involved the driver of a Mercedes and a male pedestrian.

“It is reported that the pedestrian told the driver of the car to slow down as it is believed the driver was accelerating as the victim was crossing the road with children,” they said.

“The suspect then reportedly shouted repeated racial abuse at the victim.”

A 41-year-old man from East Dorset was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and released on police bail while enquiries continue.
