Five homes planned on barn site near Frome

PLANS for five new homes on the site of a barn near Frome have been submitted.

The scheme would see the properties developed on the site of a large barn at Orcadia Farm, in Chantry.

Previously, permission was granted to change the use of the agricultural building to homes – but the application outlines plans to demolish the barn.

“The dwellings would be detached dwellings loosely set around the internal road,” it said.

“They would all follow a similar traditional design approach, but to avoid uniformity among the dwellings, there would be variations between dwellings.”

It said the homes would all be five-bedroom homes, with “generous living areas”.

“Each dwelling will benefit from a garden area which is commensurate to the footprint of the dwelling and compatible with the village location,” it went on.

Parking spaces would also be allocated to each property the application, submitted by Context Planning on behalf of Mr A Jones, of CustomBuilt, a Warminster developer.

“The overall siting, scale and massing of the development is appropriate for its setting, given the existing built form on site,” it added.

“The dwellings will fit comfortably in their plots, with ample amenity space and landscape buffers.”

Access would come from a no-through road, off Railford Hill.

The application concluded: “Overall, the proposed dwellings are of an acceptable siting, scale and design, that would preserve the character and appearance of the area.”
