TWO recycling centres in Dorset are set to close temporarily this month to allow maintenance to take place and to help facilitate the upcoming Ironman triathlon.
Weymouth will host the Ironman 70.3 event on September 14, which will see some roads around both Weymouth and Dorchester close to allow participants to hit the streets.

This will see the tip at Preston Beach Road in Weymouth close on Sunday, September 14 due to road closures, while the Dorchester recycling centre at Louds Mill will remain open – but Dorset Council has warned that access may be disrupted until early afternoon.

Residents are advised to either delay their visit until later in the day, use an alternative site, or wait until both reopen on Monday, September 15.
The Dorchester Recycling Centre is also set to close from Tuesday, September 16 to Friday, September 19 to allow essential maintenance work to take place. It will reopen on Saturday, September 20.
Similar maintenance work will take place at the Weymouth tip at Louds Mill from Tuesday, September 23 to Friday, September 26, with it reopening on Saturday, September 27.
“We thank residents for their understanding and encourage planning ahead for any waste disposal needs during these periods,” a Dorset Council spokesperson said.
