Vale school leader scaling heights to raise money for outdoor learning

A LEADER at a Vale primary school is aiming high to raise money for outdoor learning and swimming.

Andrew Wright, head of school at Shillingstone Primary, is swapping the classroom for the mountains as he takes on the challenge of climbing three of England’s highest peaks to raise money for the Forest School programme and trips.

During the summer holidays, Mr Wright will tackle some of the UK’s most demanding climbs in a bid to help provide pupils with “even greater opportunities to learn, grow and thrive”.

Funds raised will go towards enhancing the school’s Forest School provision, giving children more opportunities to explore, learn and develop confidence in the outdoors, as well as providing buses to take children on trips and to swimming lessons.

“Every child deserves opportunities that inspire confidence, resilience and a love of learning,” the teacher said.

“Forest School and swimming both provide invaluable experiences that stay with children for life.

“I wanted to set myself a personal challenge that could make a real difference to our pupils, and I’d be incredibly grateful for any support from our local community.”

The school is encouraging parents, friends, local businesses and the community to get behind the challenge by donating, sharing Andrew’s fundraising page and cheering him on throughout the summer.
