Man suffers “serious injuries” after being attacked by gang outside Gillingham Waitrose

A MAN in his 20s was taken to hospital with “serious injuries” after being attacked by a gang of men outside a Gillingham supermarket.

The incident unfolded at the Waitrose store in Chantry Fields at around 6.30pm yesterday evening (July 4).

“It was reported that the victim, a man aged in his 20s, was assaulted by a group of male offenders, who then left the scene in a blue car,” a Dorset Police spokesperson said.

“Officers attended, along with the ambulance service, and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.”

One of the attackers is described as wearing a dark-coloured top, khaki or brown shorts and dark-coloured boots, with another said to be wearing a black top and black shorts.

Investigations Officer Flo Winstanley, of Dorset County CID, said: “We are carrying out active enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and identify those involved.

“I would urge any witnesses who have not already spoken to police, or anyone with information that might assist our investigation, to please contact us.

“I am also keen to hear from any motorists who were in the area of the Waitrose car park in Gillingham around 6.30pm on Saturday and may have captured any relevant dashcam footage.

“I would also like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the cordon was in place as we carried out enquiries at the scene.

“We are now in an investigative phase and there is no information to indicate any threat to the wider public.”
