PEOPLE in search of a summer read are being urged to pick up a free book at a weekend event at Shillingstone Station next month.
On July 4 and 5, the North Dorset Railway stop will host a Bag a Book Weekend, offering donated tomes to good homes.
“There are times when you really can have too much of a good thing,” a spokesperson said.
“North Dorset Railway is struggling to cope with the number of books donated over the years by well-wishers, and needs to clear some storage space.”
They said the donated books are “mostly railway history, but there will also be novels, biographies, children’s books, cooking and gardening books, and all for free”.
They said donations to the railway would be greatly appreciated from those collecting books, going towards the maintenance and development of the station.
“And when you’ve bagged your books, why not grab something tasty from the café and linger in the station’s gardens for a quiet read?,” they added.
Shillingstone Station will be open between 10am and 5pm on both days of the Bag a Book Weekend and entry is free.
