CCTV appeal after arson attack at Somerset barbershop

OFFICERS investigating an arson attack at a Somerset barber shop want to trace these people.

CCTV images have been released after an incident at the Razor King Barbershop, in Church Street, Wincanton, at around 7.30am on Saturday, March 14.

“Two men have attempted to smash a window with a rock before pouring an accelerant on the glass and door and setting it alight,” an Avon & Somerset Police spokesperson said.

“The fire did not take hold, but it did cause scarring to the front of the store and the pavement.

“The suspects fled the scene in the direction of North Street.”

They said house-to-house, CCTV, and forensic enquiries have taken place as part of the ongoing investigation, with officers also carrying out additional patrols in the town.

DC Chloe Murray said: “This is a very concerning incident which could have resulted in significant consequences.

“Although no-one was in the shop at the time of the incident, there are flats above the premises, which could have been impacted had the fire taken hold.

“We’re treating the incident as arson and are asking for the public’s help to identify the two men in the CCTV images.

“One is described as white, of medium build, wearing a black hooded top, dark coloured trousers and black trainers. The second man is also white, of slim build, wearing a black hooded gilet, dark trousers and black trainers.”

Anyone with information about the incident, or who recognises the people pictured, should contact police on 101, reference 5226070773, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
