SIX new CCTV cameras will be installed in Sherborne in the coming days.
These cameras have been paid for by Dorset Council, which received a government grant, with Sherborne Town Council picking up the costs for ongoing electricity expenses.
Separate electric meters have already been installed to manage and track these costs effectively.
The new cameras will be placed in five locations in the town.
This includes the high-traffic area of Greenhill, outside the Weldmar Hospicecare charity shop on Half Moon Street, the railway station side of Pageant Gardens and at the top of the car park at Terrace Playing Fields.
Two cameras are also set to be installed at Cheap Street outside the Sherborne Antiques Market and outside Capital Carpets.

The town council said these locations have been carefully selected to cover the most critical areas in the town.
The cameras will be installed tomorrow (June 19) and Friday (June 20).
The images will be monitored by Dorset Council via their specialist control room.
A Sherborne Town Council spokesperson said: “This significant initiative aims to enhance security and safety in our community, providing increased peace of mind for residents, visitors, and local businesses.”
They added: “As part of our commitment to transparency and continuous improvement, the project will be reviewed by all relevant parties over the five-year contract period.
“This review process will assess the effectiveness of the CCTV system, its impact on reducing crime, and any necessary adjustments to enhance its functionality.
“We are dedicated to making our town a safer place for everyone, and we believe that this initiative is a crucial step towards achieving that goal.”

So pleased these cameras are being installed it will make folk feel safer and hopefully be a deterrent to those who are up to no good
