Somerset roads remain closed – including A303 – as rain set to return

A NUMBER of roads in Somerset remain closed after heavy rain – including the A303 – with more downpours forecast for later today.

Somerset Council said the following routes were shut due to flooding after the county was battered by storms at the start of the week:

    • A303 Podimore – westbound A37 to A3088
    • Langport Road to Muchelney
    • New Road, West Lyng
    • Cutts Road, East Lyng to Athelney
    • West Mudford Road
    • Tylers Lane, Fitzhead

Meanwhile, the Met Office said rain is set to return later today and overnight.

“Rain continuing to sweep eastwards, covering the entire region,” a forecaster said, with temperatures dropping to around 6C.

And on Thursday, they said rain would be “heavy along south-facing hills and coasts”, but could become drier in the afternoon, with temperatures reaching around 12C.
