Celebrating their centenary, members of Castle Cary and Ansford Women’s Institute planted a rowan tree in Fairfield. They then gathered for the 100th anniversary with President Irene Dobson at The Shambles, Market House in Cary.
Castle Cary Women’s institute was formed on 29 May 1922 with Ansford included in the title from 1945. Joining the gathering were members from local institutes in Witham Friary and Bruton too.
Casey Worrall (Federation Secretary) read from the notes of a 1927 meeting from the WI archives, which explained two proposed resolutions to go forward to the National Annual meeting: humane killings in slaughterhouses, and adequate sentences for the guilty of the offence against children. What amazing, forward-thinking women, and still always striving to do positive work.
If you care to join the Castle Cary and Ansford WI there are monthly meetings held at 7.15pm on the third Tuesday of every month at The Shambles.
