The Farm Shop at Guys Marsh prison opened in June last year and quickly established itself as a venue for quality products and plants produced by the prison communities at HMP Guys Marsh, HMP Portland and HMP The Verne. Normally run by prisoners on temporary release, these shops, along with the Jailhouse Cafes, provide a key opportunity for re-integration into society on release as part of a resettlement and rehabilitation programme run by the charity Expia Ltd.
Open from 10am–2pm, Wednesday to Friday, the farm shop is stocked with a wide selection of perennials, hanging-basket plants and herbs, its own branded chutneys and preserves, gifts and prisoner-made planters. This is a tremendous opportunity to get involved in a charity which supports such a worthwhile cause. Due to a recent shortage of staff, the shop needs volunteers to support this initiative by working in the shop. Any time you can offer, from a couple of hours to a full day would be appreciated.
If you are interested in volunteering and would like more information please call or text Geoff on 07881 517280 or Georgina on 01747 856544.
