Woman killed in two-car crash near Dorchester

A WOMAN was sadly killed after two cars crashed on an A-road near Dorchester yesterday (October 22).

A black Kia Niro and a grey Peugeot 107 crashed at around 5.34pm on the A37 near Maiden Newton.

Despite emergency services attending, a 49-year-old woman from Weymouth who was driving the Peugeot was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Police said her next of kin have been informed.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to respond and so specialist officers could examine the scene.

Dorset Police is keen to hear from anyone who may have any footage or witnessed the incident to help their investigation.

Police sergeant Mike Burt, of the serious collision investigation team, said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who sadly died in this collision.

“An investigation is underway into this incident and I am appealing for anyone who saw what happened and has not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“Also, I am keen to speak to any motorists who captured dashcam footage of the manner of driving of the vehicles involved or of the moments leading up to the collision to please contact us.

“You may have vital information to assist our enquiries. Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place.”
