DORSET residents are being warned to stay vigilant after reports of a scam Winter Fuel Allowance text.
The text claims the recipient has not submitted their application for the 2024-2025 winter heating subsidy and requests them to click through the link provided to complete a new application.
But clicking on the link could take you to a fake government website designed to steal personal information or bank details.
Unfortunately for the scammers, this specific scam text was sent to PCSO Ali Donnison of Dorchester Police.
A spokesperson for the force said: “The messages may state recipients are eligible for a payment and must act quickly to claim it, urging them to click a link and provide personal information or even a small payment.”
