RACING returns to Wincanton today (November 20) for a seven-race meeting, which includes four races over hurdles, two over fences, and concludes with a bumper.
Here’s our preview – and tips – for the Wincanton Racecourse card, courtesy of Betway…
First up is a handicap hurdle over two and a half miles for conditional and amateur jockeys (12.27).
The Seamus Mullins-trained Path Of Stars is a consistent type, often in the placings, who should have another eachway chance here.
Syd Hosie’s Staff Sergeant Len looks well placed to run a big race, but Ben Pauling’s Squire Danagher could be a better option, now down to a tempting mark under a three-pound claimer.
A mares’ maiden hurdle follows, run over a mile and seven furlongs (1.00).
Alan King’s Innisfree Pearl is a winner on the Flat and, tried over hurdles for the first time today, should have the speed to run a good race, while Nick Scholfield’s St Irene looks a big threat having placed in mares’ novice company last time out at Newbury.
Race three is a two-mile novices’ handicap chase (1.35).
Joe Tizzard is having an excellent season so far and his runner, Star Of Affinity, warrants respect after a decent first try over fences earlier this month at Chepstow. Authoceltic could make the placings, as could Robbie Llewellyn’s Jaitroplaclasse, who could be due some luck today after being hampered and falling last time out at Newton Abbot.
Next we have the first division of a handicap hurdle, run just under two miles (2.10).
Anthony Honeyball’s Getmetothemoon was last seen winning at Stratford, but looks unlikely to repeat that form at the weights here. Taritino should be competitive and could place, but the one to beat looks to be Western Soldier, who is given a useful five pounds by rider Callum Pritchard.
In division two (2.45), Birthday Angel is interesting having won at Plumpton on Monday in convincing fashion, and might go well again despite carrying a seven-pound penalty.
Lady Caro is nearing her last winning mark and could run a good race to pick up at least a place, but Crown Of India might be the best placed to win having had a run already and slid down to her initial winning mark. With five pounds in hand from claiming rider Jamie Brace, this could be her day.
The penultimate race is a two and a half mile handicap chase (3.20).
Billy Aprahamian’s Pep Talking is a very consistent type who hasn’t been seen outside the first three home since this time last year, and he can go well again.
Charlie Longsdon’s Imperial Jade could be a player if the newly applied cheekpieces have the desired effect, but Merry Monty could be our winner under Bryan Carver, though he will not appreciate any rain.
Finally, racing concludes with a three-year-olds’ bumper (3.55).
Only two of the 13 runners have raced before, so this race is not easy to judge on paper and the market on the day will guide. It might pay to look in the direction of Paul Nicholls’ Roximan, a son of Kapgarde, who represents a powerful stable.
Anthony Honeyball plays a strong hand in running three horses here, of which his first string is Bailly’s Comet, a half-brother to the very talented Romeo Coolie and Ascending Lark, so on pedigree he should be the one to beat.
