Wincanton man sentenced after overtaking unmarked police car without driving licence

A 21-YEAR-old man from Wincanton has received a suspended sentence after he broke the speed limit when he overtook an unmarked police car whilst driving without a licence.

Jake King, of Maunder Close, was tailgating an unmarked police car on the A30 near Ludwell near Shaftesbury on Saturday (September 27) in a black Audi when he overtook them on a 30mph zone, breaking the speed limit.

When King was pulled over, he initially refused to provide his details before he said: “Are we really going to do this?”

King then admitted that he didn’t have a driving licence and was disqualified from driving. He then admitted driving the vehicle on false plates.

Officers also found a Stanley knife on the driver’s seat.

The vehicle was also deemed unroadworthy due to exposed cord on the two front tyres and was seized.

PC Hughes from the County LPTT said: “Despite driving on false plates and without both a licence and insurance, King drove very recklessly by overtaking what turned out to be an unmarked police vehicle in a 30mph zone.

“He was also found to be in possession of a knife.

“There is no place for this type of criminality in Wiltshire and we will continue to be robust with those found to be breaking the law.”

King appeared in Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Monday (September 29) after pleading guilty to driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, possession of a bladed article and forging a registration document.

He was jailed for five months, suspended for 18 months. He is also required to complete 30 days of rehabilitation activity days.
