Wincanton History Day takes town back in time

ANYONE visiting Wincanton on Saturday would have been forgiven for thinking they had stepped back in time.

Pavements were lined with people in historical costume and the roads full of vintage vehicles as the town enjoyed the first Wincanton History Day.

Organised by the Wincanton History & Museum Society, the event featured a range of events celebrating the town’s place in history – including antiques valuations, vehicle displays, arts and crafts and re-enactments.

Among those taking part were Antiques Roadshow expert Richard Price, who joined auctioneers Richard Bromell and Lee Young valuing items for visitors.

“The Wincanton History Day was a fabulous window into the past for members of the public,” said one visitor.

“The whole town was buzzing. I thoroughly enjoyed the day and will never see Wincanton in the same light again. It is so full of history, which all of the volunteers did so much to bring alive.”
