Two men arrested after trying to throw drugs into prison near Shaftesbury

TWO men have been arrested after they tried to throw Class A and B drugs into HMP Guys Marsh near Shaftesbury.

Police stopped a vehicle on the A303 near Winterbourne Stoke on Monday (July 28) at around 11.20am after it had been involved in an attempted throw of suspected contraband at the prison earlier that day.

The vehicle was stopped on the A303, and two men were detained for a stop and search.

A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “With help from the Dogs Unit, PD Merlin and his handler located a large amount of suspected Class A and Class B drugs, along with other prohibited articles that would have been used in the attempted throw over.

“Further information revealed that both detained men had also been involved in an altercation with prison officers.”

Both men were arrested for possession with intent to supply Class A and Class B drugs, assault, and attempting to throw prohibited articles into a prison.

In addition to this, the driver, a 27-year-old man from London, was also arrested for a driving offence.

Both men were then handed over to Dorset Police, who are leading this investigation.
