Tragedy on A35 as woman killed in crash

A WOMAN has sadly died following a serious crash between two cars on the A35 in west Dorset early this morning (October 22).

A white BMW and a grey BMW crashed near Askerswell at 12.05am.

The crash killed a 37-year-old woman from Bournemouth who was pronounced dead at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and the coroner has been notified.

A 28-year-old man from Plymouth was taken to hospital with life-changing injuries.

Following the crash, a 35-year-old man from Poole was arrested on suspicion of a driving offence. He was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The road was closed for several hours to enable emergency services to attend the scene.

Police are now appealing for witnesses to come forward.

Police Sergeant Leanne Howes, of the Roads Policing Team, said: “Tragically, a woman has lost her life in this collision and our thoughts are with her loved ones.

“We are investigating the circumstances of what happened and would like to hear from any witnesses who have not already spoken to police, or anyone with relevant dashcam footage.

“Road closures were put in place while an examination of the scene was carried out and we are aware that they would have greatly impacted motorists.

“I would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding while they were in place.”
