Stolen car caught on CCTV days later – stealing tools from the same street

A CAR reported stolen from a Dorchester address was captured on CCTV days later – stealing tools from a property in the same street.

Police are appealing for information after the car – a Citroen Cactus – was stolen from an address in Baynard’s Road at around 4.20pm on Sunday, May 4.

“In the days that followed, the vehicle was subsequently captured on CCTV in connection with reports of various tools in the same road, including a cement mixer,” a Dorset Police spokesperson said.

The stolen Citroen was found in the Crossways area on Monday, May 12, and recovered.

Officers also located a Volkswagen Transporter van, which had been reported as stolen from the East Sussex area, which was also linked to the tool thefts in Baynard’s Road.

PC James Harper, of Dorchester police, said: “We are carrying out a detailed investigation into these incidents and I would urge anyone with information that might assist our enquiries to please contact us.

“We would also urge members of the public in the area to please check any garages, driveways and outbuildings for any further items which may have been stolen between Sunday 4 May and Monday 12 May 2025.

“Furthermore, I would ask residents to please check any home CCTV or doorbell cameras during this period to see if they have captured relevant footage.

“We are aware of CCTV footage relating to this incident circulating online on social media. This matter is the subject of an active investigation and I would urge anyone with relevant footage not to share it on social media but to report it to police.”
