DOZENS of schools are set to close – and classes cancelled at others – amid a teachers’ strike over pay and conditions.
Around 100,000 members of the National Education Union (NEU) are set to walk out on Wednesday (February 1) in action expected to affect some 23,000 schools across the country.
In Somerset, dozens of schools have already announced partial or full closures on the day.
The action will be the first of seven scheduled walkouts for NEU staff in the coming months, as talks with the government continue in a last-ditch bid to avoid the action.
