Shaftesbury Food & Drink Festival 2024 cancelled as committee steps down

THERE will be no Shaftesbury Food & Drink Festival in 2024, it has been announced.

The “small committee” behind the event, which took place in May last year, has stepped down.

“Sadly, after a tremendous food and drink festival in 2023, the small committee organising the event have decided to step down,” said Jenny Brown, from the festival.

“There will not be a Shaftesbury Food & Drink Festival this year.”

She said the committee wanted to thank everyone who had supported the event, as a member of past committees, a sponsor or as a visitor since the festival began almost two decades ago.

“Donations from the profit achieved have been agreed and they are to Mosaic, Will Does, Shine 21 and Shaftesbury Scouts,” she added.

“This reflects the support the committee would like to give to children based charities in Dorset helping to secure the future generation.”

Probably good for this year as there are far too many events going on in Shaftesbury over the last year, often two a weekend. I feel really sorry for the shop owners. Market overkill and gridlocking the limited parking there.

Surely they could have found others who would be prepared to run this event ? Maybe this should be supported by the council
