More than £5,000 has been sent to Shelterbox to help with its work supporting refugees fleeing the war in Ukraine – thanks to the efforts of Wimborne Rotary and Wimborne’s Allendale Centre.
Shelterbox is a Rotary International project partner which works in many countries around the world, including Poland, and aims to ensure no family is left without shelter from the elements.
The Allendale Centre, along with its Friday market, provided space for Rotary to display a typical Shelterbox accommodation tent and invited Wimborne Rotarians to collect donations from the public. The Allendale also hosted special events, including one for children and an evening concert, with proceeds going to the fundraising effort.
Allendale raised £2,174 with Wimborne Rotary contributing a further £3,160 from member and public donations, and club funds.
Rotarian Brian Dryden, who co-ordinated the joint initiative, said: “I am delighted our initiative with the Allendale produced such good results for our fundraising for Ukraine. The money will assist Shelterbox with its relief work with Ukrainian refugees.”
