ROADS around Dorchester and Weymouth will temporarily close at the end of next week to allow one of the most famous triathlon events to take place.
Ironman 70.3 in Weymouth is just a week away and it will see participants take part in a 1.2-mile swim in Weymouth Bay, a 56-mile bike ride almost as far as Sturminster Newton and a 13.1-mile run around Weymouth to cap the event off.
Roads around both Weymouth and Dorchester will close to help facilitate the demanding race on Sunday, September 14.
Residents are being urged to plan ahead to they don’t get caught out with the road closures.
Weymouth road closures:
Commercial Road will close from 6am to 4.30pm.
Maiden Street and East Street will see the one way system reversed from 6am to 5.30pm. But access to and from residences on Maiden Street and East Street will remain available.
Cars will not be able to exit the Pavilion car park from 6am to 5.30pm.

Custom House Quay, S Parade and the Esplanade close to Alexandra Gardens will close from 6am to 5.30pm.
The Esplanade southbound will close from 6am to 7pm, with access available northbound from Westham Road.
Lodmoor Car Park will close from September 9 at 7pm to September 15 at 6pm.

Preston road closures:
South West Coast Path will close from 4am to 6pm.
Preston Road will be closed with a convoy system operating from Bowleaze roundabout to Chalbury roundabout (with the exit being Littlemoor Road only) from 6.30am to 10.15am. This will also be in place from 10.14am to 2pm, with the exit either from Littlemoor Road or Preston Road.
Southdown Avenue will close from 9am to 4pm.
Littlemoor Road will be closed eastbound form 6.30am to 1.45pm.
During the road closures, to access Preston Road, roads off Preston Road, or Osmington and Broadmayne, a recommended diversion has been given: Take the A354 Monkton Hill, follow the signs for Came Down Golf Club, cross at Chalky Road, continue to access Broadmayne and the A352 and join the A352 and access Preston New Road at the roundabout.
The A353 Preston Road will close eastbound up to the Wareham Road roundabout from 6.30am to 10.15am.
Crossways road closures:
The B3390 will close from 7am to 10.30am.
Warmwell Road will close from 7am to 10.30am.
Redbridge Road through to the Old Weymouth Road up until the road before Manor Farm House Moreton will close from 7am to 10.45am.
The B3390 up until the crossroads at Pallington Heath will close from 7am to 10.45am.
The road past Pallington Lakes will close from 7am to 11am.

Puddletown road closures:
Rhododendron Mile to Puddletown High Street will close from 7am to 11.15am.
The High Street will close westbound from 7.30am to 11.15am.
Blandford Road and The Moor up to the A354 roundabout will close northbound from 7.30am to 11.15am with no right turn at the traffic signals.
The roundabout itself will also be closed northbound from 7.30am to 11.15am with no access on to the A35.
The B3142 will close from Druce Lane to Waterston Lane up to King’s Stag from 7.30am to 12pm.
Crouch Hill to Cosmore road closures:
Fosters Hill to Holwell Drove, Stock Hill Lane, Park Lane and Kennels Lane will close from 8am to 12.30pm.
Tiley Knap at Middlemarsh through to Charlton Down will close from 8am to 1pm.
Dorchester road closures:
The Old Sherborne Road through to the crossroads at the B3143 will close from 8.30am to 1.30pm.
Slyer’s Lane through to London Road and Stinsford Hill will close from 8.30am to 1.30pm.
Kings Road will see residential access northbound only, and will be closed southbound 8.30am to 1.30pm.
Alington Road will be closed from 8.30am to 1.30pm.
Alington Road through to Alington Avenue will be closed southbound from 8.30am to 1.30pm.
The A352 through to Whitcombe cross roads will close from 8.30am to 1.30pm with residential access northbound only. No access to West Stafford using this route.
The road from Whitcombe through to the Chalky Road crossing point and on to Coombe Valley Road will close from 8.30am to 1.45pm.
