FILM fans are being warned against a social media scam offering paid review work.
The made-up job adverts, offering people the chance to become a paid film reviewer, are being posted on social media.
Dorset Police said the ads are purported to be posted by a representative from a movie chain, claiming they are looking for people to watch new release movies at home and write reviews in exchange for payment.
While it sounds fun and easy, it is too good to be true,” said Dorset Police fraud protection officer, Damian Cranny.
“These scams ask for your personal information under the guise of a ‘registration process’, which they then use for identity theft or sell to other scammers.
“They may also persuade you to make payments to unlock your earnings which you will never get.”
He urged people to be on their guard against job offers that sound too good to be true, as they probably are.
“Be very wary of anyone claiming you can make easy money watching movies, testing video games, mystery shopping, etc,” he added.
“These ‘dream job’ ads are almost always scams. When in doubt, search online to see if the company is real and legitimate. And never give out your personal or banking information.”
