Plans for up to 40 new homes in Somerset village submitted

DOZENS of new homes could be built on land near Shepton Mallet if plans are approved.

An application for 40 new homes on land at Prestleigh Road, Evercreech, has been submitted to Somerset Council by Octavia Group on behalf of Rubix Strategic Ltd.

The site, around 4.3 acres, would consist of one, two, three and four-bedroom homes, including 30% available as affordable housing.

“The vision for the scheme is to create a sustainable new living environment, based around a fully-integrated new community with new homes that are accessible to everyone,” the application said.

It said due to the nature of the site, the homes could be developed quickly and that “with careful design, visual impact can be managed, avoiding significant adverse impact”.

“The development will positively contribute to the growth of the local economy by delivering new homes,” it added.

Access to the site is proposed from Prestleigh Road.

Somerset Council planners will now consider the scheme. For more details, and to comment, log on to somerset.gov.uk, application reference 2024/0406/OUT.
