PLANS to demolish part of a former Wincanton shop to make way for nine new homes has been submitted.
An application submitted to South Somerset District Council would see the former Co-op store in the High Street redeveloped, with part of the rear of the building demolished to make way for the properties.
The scheme, submitted on behalf of Hopkins Estates Limited, would see five terraced houses and four apartments built, as well as the refurbishment of the former shop and the flat above.

The application says the site has been unoccupied for ‘many years’.
“Its last use was a Co-op store, but that now sits derelict in the High Street,” it said.
“The land also contains hardstanding which is used as a car park, and a small area of grassland.”
Although the property sits within the Wincanton Conservation Area, it is not subject to any further protective designations, the application says.
“The site does lie in close proximity to a number of listed buildings that fall along the high street,” it added.
“More specifically, the Dolphin Hotel that lies adjacent to the site boundary is a Grade II listed building.”
The land at the rear of the shop was formerly used as parking connected to the Dolphin, the plan says, but there are no rights of way linked to the property.
Four two-bedroom and one three-bedroom terraced houses would be built under the plan, as well as three two-bed and two one-bed flats.
Access to the properties would be gained through a new access from the existing car park to the east, falling on Windmill Cotts.
A total of 23 parking spaces would be provided, as well as eight cycle spaces with secured covered parking.
