PLANS for 23 new homes in Fontmell Magna have been submitted – next door to a scheme already being built.
The scheme would see agricultural land on South Street – currently being used as a compound for the neighbouring Spring Meadows housing development – built on.
Submitted by Charleston Bespoke Homes Ltd, the application says the properties would be “sustainable”, with a main access off the A350 and through the Spring Meadows site.
Featuring two, three and four-bedroom properties, the proposed development would include 40% affordable housing.
“A new road through the Spring Meadows development accessed from the A350 will provide access to the site from the northeast corner,” it said.
A pedestrian route through the site gives “quick and safe access” to the village centre and amenities, it added.
The application is ‘outline’, with no specific details of the proposed homes.
However, the document says future applications would “look to develop designs which are contemporary, sustainable, low energy and respect the character of Fontmell Magna”.
It will offer “a high-quality scheme which will enhance green infrastructure, provide a mix of new wildlife habitats; offer public amenity with safe circulation through the site and into the neighbouring development”.

The application comes just months after plans for nine new homes on neighbouring land at Blandford’s Farm, in West Street, were submitted.
“The public realm and street scene will be enhanced with tree and landscape planting to create a pleasant pedestrian environment which suits the landscape character,” it added.
Open spaces would feature “natural play”, such as jumping stones and balance logs, the plan said.
